PEOPLES NATURAL GAS RATE SETTLEMENT REACHED
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- UtiliCorp United

(NYSE:UCU) announced today that its Peoples Natural Gas division has reached a rate increase agreement with an executive committee representing 33 Nebraska communities. The agreement would result in a revenue increase totalling $1.02 million. On average, the communities would see rate increases of approximately 10 percent.
Final approval of the recommended settlement rates must be made by the individual communities by Feb. 27, 1992. The rate increase agreement was reached with an executive committee representing the communities. As required by Nebraska law, area rate hearings will be held in late January to present information about the rate actions to representatives of the communities.
The division had filed requests with the communities on Aug. 1, 1991, for natural gas rate increases totalling $1.2 million. Peoples began charging the originally proposed rates on Oct. 30. It will issue a credit for the difference by March 28, 1992, to customers in communities that have adopted the rates agreed to in the settlement.
Based in Kansas City, UtiliCorp provides gas and electric service to nearly a million customers in eight states and the province of British Columbia.
