PEOPLES NATURAL GAS: ENERGY ASSISTANCE FUNDS STILL AVAILABLE

 PITTSBURGH, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- People who need help paying their natural gas bill must apply now for remaining funds from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
 The Peoples Natural Gas Company has an 800 number available for customers to call for help.
 LIHEAP is a federally funded program to help low-income families pay heating bills and resolve crisis situations. Regular LIHEAP funds will run out Jan. 22 or earlier. However, crisis funds are still available and customers who meet eligibility guidelines may obtain crisis money.
 Crisis funds are granted in emergency situations such as if the gas is off, the customer has a termination notice or has a payment agreement and the balance is over $200. Crisis money will probably be available through March, but funds are limited.
 People who may be eligible for LIHEAP grants should contact their gas company immediately to see if they qualify. Individuals are eligible if their annual incomes are less than $10,215. Eligibility increases by an additional $3,570 in annual income for each additional person in the household.
 To obtain further information or to apply for LIHEAP funds, customers are urged to call 800-400-WARM or contact their local Peoples Gas office. When applying for funds, customers should have the following;
 -- The names and proofs of income for all people living in their household.
 -- The most recent heating bill.
 -- The Social Security numbers of all people living in their household.
 LIHEAP assistance is a grant. No lien is placed on the homes or properties of those who receive funds.
 Peoples Gas provides natural gas service to 336,000 customers in 16 counties throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
