PEOPLES GAS SYSTEM CEO NAMED SOUTHERN GAS ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN

TAMPA, Fla., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- John A. Brabson Jr., president and chief executive of Peoples Gas System, Inc., was named chairman of the Southern Gas Association (SGA) Tuesday during its 85th annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
The SGA represents 125 major natural gas distribution, marketing, transmission companies in 16 southern states. There also are about 300 associate members that supply the industry with goods and services and about 1,000 individual members in the association.
One of the SGA's top goals is "Linking People, Ideas and Information," and Brabson takes the idea one step further with his administration's theme, "Seizing Opportunities."
"Seldom before has this industry faced better opportunities for growth, and with recent developments in new technology, we expect to continue making market inroads with our efficient, domestic and environmentally benign fuel," Brabson said.
The SGA's mission is to provide service and support activities that improve individual and corporate performance in the transmission, distribution and marketing of natural gas service to all customers served by member companies.
"Another key SGA goal is to increase public awareness about the environmental and economical attributes of natural gas for home and outdoor appliances, vehicles, air conditioning and the generation of electricity," Brabson said.
Concluding Tuesday's address to industry representatives, Brabson used a golf analogy to drive across his point about seizing opportunities in the coming year.
"The ball is teed up. If we will keep our head down, our eye on the ball and remember to follow through, there is no telling how far we can hit the ball and how well we can score," Brabson said.
Peoples Gas, based in Tampa, is the state's largest natural gas distribution company, serving about 225,000 customers in most major Florida markets.
