PEOPLE POWER IS JUST A JOKE.
Yet I've just heard, on Radio 4, the newly-resigned treasurer of Macclesfield Conservatives tell how, when they gave their preferred list of candidates to Conservative Central Office, a local councillor was struck off it because "he would have an advantage over the others".
I should jolly well think he'd have an advantage. They knew how he performed. But he was eliminated and one of George Osborne's aides shoe-horned in instead. If that's giving power back to the voter, I'm a monkey's uncle.
