PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS VISITING MINNESOTA
Liu Chunmao, vice governor of the Shaanxi Province of the People's Republic of China, and a delegation of Chinese government and business officials are in Minnesota, Dec. 4-6, to reaffirm the friendship state- province relationship between Minnesota and the Shaanxi Province.
The agreement, which will be signed by Lt. Gov. Joanell Dyrstad, and Chunmao at 2:30 p.m. today in the Governor's Reception Room, calls for exchanges and cooperation in economic, cultural, education, scientific, technological and other fields in accordance with the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
The delegation was invited to Minnesota to reaffirm the agreement by the Minnesota Chapter of the U.S.-China People's Friendship Association. This morning, the delegation is participating in a Minnesota Trade Office-sponsored seminar.
Minnesota has maintained a sister-province relationship with the Shaanxi Province since 1983. Since the original agreement was signed in 1982, the state of Minnesota has participated in various business and education exchanges with the Shaanxi Province.
One-third of the goods traded between the United States and China originate from the Midwest. Minnesota's manufactured exports to China in 1990 was $25.9 million, ranking China as the 25th largest export destination of Minnesota products. Minnesota exports to China represents less than one-half of one percent of the state's total exports.
The Minnesota Trade Office-sponsored seminar, "Doing Business in Shaanxi," is being presented to 30 Minnesota companies this morning at the World Trade Center in St. Paul.
