PENWEST ELECTS NARODICK AND PARZYBOK AS DIRECTORS

 BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of PENWEST (NASDAQ: PENW) elected Sally G. Narodick and William G. Parzybok Jr. as directors, succeeding two who resigned, the company announced today.
 PENWEST Chief Executive Officer Tod R. Hamachek said Narodick replaces David R. Hinson for a term which expires in 1995. Hinson has accepted President Clinton's appointment as administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration.
 Parzybok will succeed Curtis P. Lindley, whose resignation was announced previously, for a term which expires in 1996.
 Narodick is chairman and chief executive officer of Edmark Corp., a publicly held educational software company. Prior to joining Edmark in October 1989, she was a partner at Narodick, Ross & Associates, a financial and marketing consulting firm. Before starting her own business, she spent 15 years with Seafirst Corp.
 Narodick served on the Governor's Council on Education Reform and Funding, is a board member and chair of the education committee and a member of the technology committee at Lakeside School, and is on the strategic planning committee for Seattle Country Day School. She also serves on the boards of the Washington Energy Co. and the Washington Roundtable.
 She was graduated, cum laude, from Boston University, earned a masters in teaching from Columbia University and a masters in business administration, with distinction, from New York University.
 Parzybok is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Fluke Corp. He joined Fluke in 1991 after a 22-year career with Hewlett- Packard Co. (HP). He had been the general manager of several groups at HP, including the engineering applications group, the design systems group, the engineering systems group and the electronic measurement group. He had responsibilities for HP divisions in six states, Germany, Japan and Canada.
 He earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in business management from Colorado State University. Parzybok is on the board of directors of the Washington Roundtable and is a foundation associate on the science council of the Pacific Science Center.
 PENWEST develops, manufactures and markets specialty carbohydrate and synthetic polymer chemicals for papermaking. The company also produces and markets specialty food ingredients, agricultural nutrition supplements and pharmaceutical excipient products, the non-active ingredients in tablets and capsules.
