PENTAGON NAVAL ADVISOR AND NOTED DEFENSE INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE JOIN MERCHANT BANKING FIRM

Additions Will Supplement Team as Firm Acts as Catalyst for
 Aerospace/Defense Industry Restructuring
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Quarterdeck Investment Partners recently announced the addition of Cmdr. Gail Dady, USN (ret.), and Milton L. Lohr, formerly of the Department of Defense, and a noted and experienced executive in the defense industry, to the firm. Dady joins as Quarterdeck's chief operating officer, and Lohr will sit on its board of advisors.
With such prominent figures in the defense world coming on board, Quarterdeck is displaying its commitment to investing in the aerospace and defense industry as the U.S. economy changes and the post-Cold War military industry repositions itself. Quarterdeck Investment Partners, a venture capital and merchant banking firm, was formed by Jon B. Kutler, formerly a managing partner at the investment banking firm of Wasserstein, Perella and Co., as a result of a recognized need to restructure aerospace/defense businesses with support from innovative companies and private capital without relying on government involvement.
Lohr, Quarterdeck's newest advisor, has extensive experience in the military aircraft industry, avionics and commercial electronics. He has held top management positions in both corporate and government sectors and currently serves on a number of boards of directors for high technology companies. His current emphasis is on corporate development, international strategic partnering and working with U.S. corporations in accelerating the transition of technology into the domestic and international marketplace. He was the deputy undersecretary of Defense for Acquisitions under the Reagan and Bush administrations, assisting in overseeing the Department of Defense's major acquisition programs as well as exercising oversight of international programs.
Quarterdeck's new chief operating officer, Dady, is a specialist in defense and international affairs. Dady served tours within the Department of State, Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Allied Forces Southern Europe. She holds a master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She was a Federal Executive Fellow at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs and most recently she served in the Pentagon as an advisor on policy planning for base realignment and closure, and industrial base issues.
Quarterdeck's board of advisors already consists of retired military leaders such as Gen. John T. Chain Jr. USAF (Ret.), former Cmdr. Strategic Air Command and Adm. William Small USN (Ret.), former Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Europe, and industry leaders such as Richard Cook, vice president of Lockheed Corp., Steven R. Smith, former president of Northrop Corp.'s Aircraft Division, and Dr. William P. Sommers, the former director of aerospace/defense consulting at Booz Allen & Hamilton Inc.
Kutler comments, "Current attempts at defense industry conversion have primarily been supported by government funding. Quarterdeck is a private market solution." California Technology Enterprise Corp. (Ctec), a division of Quarterdeck, has already acquired one firm that uses technology transfers from defense firms for commercial purposes. The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Los Angeles has recently announced that Ctec will work closely with the EDC's newly formed High Technology Council on the conversion program whose goal is to provide capital and management expertise for moving aerospace technology into commercial markets.
