 PENNSYLVANIA TELEPHONE ASSOCIATION NETWORK
OF FUTURE EXHIBIT TO TOUR STATE
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The future is today and Pennsylvania is at the crossroads.
This is the scope and theme of the Pennsylvania Telephone Association's Network of the Future exhibit, which will tour the commonwealth through March. The exhibit shows what a 21st Century telecommunications infrastructure can mean to health care, education, economic development, daily life and senior citizens.
"The theme of our exhibit is 'Pennsylvania at the Crossroads'," said Francis C. Mangan, president of the PTA. "The telecommunications industry in our state must make decisions now that will have a profound impact on our people for decades to come."
The exhibit will debut on Jan. 14 at the Philadelphia Hilton, formerly the Hershey Hotel.
In a recently completed study, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry gave strong support to the rapid deployment of a telecommunications infrastructure which would benefit all Pennsylvanians and improve the quality of life in the commonwealth.
"It no longer is enough to have a strong network of roads, waterways and rails," Mangan said. "Pennsylvania must have in place an advanced telecommunications network.
"Technology that can make a difference exists today, but regulatory policies could delay its availability to all our residents. The stakes are too high to wait for current technology to wear out before replacing it. Pennsylvania must move, and move rapidly, or we will lag behind other states in the type of communications that will be essential to tomorrow's businesses and homes."
The Network of the Future exhibit, modular in concept and consisting of five kiosks which will demonstrate that it is only a short distance from dreams to reality, shows that the future indeed is today.
"This is more than a'geewhiz' exhibit," Mangan said. "The Network of the Future, while spectacular in its own right, demonstrates the improvements that are coming in the quality of life -- indeed, in life itself -- for all Pennsylvanians."
Visitors to the exhibit will see the 21st Century in action, eight years before the calendar says it is here, and will know how they will be affected by the Network of the Future.
Other dates already confirmed for the exhibit are: Jan. 21, Hilton, Valley Forge; Feb. 4, Harrisburg Hilton; Feb. 10, Holiday Inn East, Harrisburg; Feb. 20, Toftrees, State College; Feb. 25, Vista International, Pittsburgh; March 10, Radisson, Monroeville; and March 25, Holiday Inn, Allentown.
