PENNSYLVANIA LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD MARKETS ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES CONTAINING 'LESS'
PENNSYLVANIA LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD MARKETS ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES CONTAINING 'LESS' HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to today's health conscious society which demands less and less in what they eat and drink, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is now marketing alcoholic beverages containing "less." While some products boast that they have less salt, sugar, calories or they're less filling, the PLCB has listed four new products which contain less alcohol and fewer calories. Tropic Bay Light Rum, Cantina Light Tequila, Maroff Vodka and London Crown Royal Gin are being test-marketed in 100 stores. These products are 48 proof (24 percent alcohol) and have one-third fewer calories than most popular brands ranging from 80 to 100 proof. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is down 24 percent in Pennsylvania over the past 10 years. Pennsylvania's consumption rate mirrors a nationwide decline in consumption. That decline is attributed to a greater health consciousness and stricter enforcement of drunk driving laws. While the PLCB said it views this awareness and its resulting decline in consumption as positive, it's making these "light" products available for those who consider "less" is more. /delval/ -0- 11/20/91 /CONTACT: Donna M.
