PENNSYLVANIA LEAD TEACHER CONFERENCE SET FOR MARCH 18-19
The state Department of Education will sponsor its third annual Pennsylvania Lead Teacher Conference Wednesday and Thursday, March 18 and 19, at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, Hershey, Pa.
The theme of the conference is "Teacher Leadership: Sharing Expertise."
More than 300 lead teachers, principals, superintendents and other educators are expected to attend.
Participants will hear from national leaders in education and attend workshops on various approaches to teacher leadership.
Wednesday's speakers are Dr. Roland Barth, a Harvard University professor who trains principals and teachers on educational leadership (9:15 a.m.); Dr. Saul Cooperman, president of Educate America Inc., a national leader in school reform efforts and state and national testing (3 p.m.); and Dr. Delorese Ambrose, an education consultant specializing in the future educational needs of colleges, universities, schools and corporations (6:30 p.m.).
Education Secretary Donald M. Carroll will speak Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The Lead Teacher program was developed as a major educational initiative of Gov. Robert P. Casey in 1988. The program encourages teachers to assume leadership roles in their schools, assisting other teachers as mentors or coaches.
 Media coverage is invited.
