 PENNSYLVANIA AND RHODE ISLAND AGREE ON
 COOPERATIVE TRAVEL MARKETING PLAN
 HARRISBURG, Pa., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania and Rhode Island have entered into a unique cooperative effort to market themselves as international travel destinations, State Commerce Secretary Andrew T. Greenberg announced today.
 The Rhode Island/Pennsylvania Regional International Marketing Project involves the two states, USAir, and the convention and visitors bureaus in Pittsburgh and Newport, R.I.
 The venture, which will promote the two states and cities to German tourists, is the first to be developed under a U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration (USTTA) regional market development program that focuses on U.S. destinations that are lesser known in international markets.
 "Our participation in this first cooperative promotional effort, supported by USTTA, will allow Pennsylvania to effectively pool its international marketing resources in reaching new markets," Greenberg said.
 "The joint initiative will help Pennsylvania expand into a new international market that has great potential. Pennsylvania's selection for this pilot program speaks to our aggressive travel marketing campaign under the 'America Starts Here' theme."
 Pennsylvania's Department of Commerce will administer the state's involvement in the cooperative marketing plan -- with assistance from the Greater Pittsburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau and Lenzner Grayline in Pittsburgh.
 The three-year program in Germany will include:
 -- tour packages utilizing USAir's Frankfurt-Pittsburgh route;
 -- participation in trade shows and training seminars; and,
 -- an effort to familiarize the travel press and industry with Pennsylvania and Rhode Island through visits and special tours.
 USTTA, which will provide technical assistance and financial support, will pay $50,000 the first year, $40,000 the second year, and $30,000 the final year.
