PENNDOT ISSUES TRAFFIC ALERT

 PENNDOT ISSUES TRAFFIC ALERT
PITTSBURGH, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of

Transportation (PennDOT) today issued the following traffic alert.
 -- Airport Parkway/Pa. Route 60:
Over the next two weeks, traffic will be restricted during non-peak periods on the Airport Parkway west of the Montour Run Interchange as a result of the ongoing construction for a new interchange at the former site of old White Swan Park. The new White Swan Interchange will connect the Airport Parkway with the new Airport Expressway leading to the Midfield Terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, inbound traffic on the existing Parkway will be restricted to one lane, and beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15, outbound traffic will be restricted to one lane as well. These restrictions will remain in effect throughout the weekend until 6 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17. After 6 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17, two-lane traffic inbound will be established on new roadway and two-lane traffic outbound will be maintained on temporary roadway.
From Monday, Aug. 17, to Friday, Aug. 21, traffic inbound will be restricted during off-peak hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while construction workers remove barriers and continue paving along the Parkway. During peak hours, two-lane traffic will be restored in each direction.
Then on Friday, Aug. 21, starting at 6 p.m., existing Parkway traffic outbound will be restricted to one lane until 6 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, while paving and other work continues around the clock on the permanent outbound connections. By 6 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24, traffic restrictions will be lifted for the morning rush hour.
During the following week from Monday, Aug. 24, to Friday, Aug., 28, outbound traffic will be restricted to one-lane during off-peak periods while construction workers clean up the areas, remove barrier, and install permanent roadway signs.
Completion of these permanent mainline connections between the existing Parkway and new expressway at White Swan is a clear indication of the significant progress on construction of the new Airport Expressway, a spokesman said. PennDOT said it expects to be ready to open the new Airport Expressway to traffic in September, on-schedule for the planned Oct. 1 opening of the Midfield Terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Motorists are asked to observe the 40 m.p.h. speed limit and use caution in traveling through the restricted areas.
