PENNDOT HEADQUARTERS TO OPEN SATURDAYS FOR
 COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE EXAMINATIONS
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will administer the written portion of the commercial driver license (CDL) examination at its headquarters in Harrisburg tomorrow and next Saturday, March 21 and 28, and on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31.
The exam, which takes less than two hours, will be offered between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Drivers who pass the written exam and have completed any other exams they may be required to take will be able to receive their CDL the same day.
The PENNDOT headquarters location is in addition to the 37 testing sites that have been operating around the state for drivers to take the CDL written exam.
"We are trying to offer drivers as many options as we can to take the required CDL tests and receive their new commercial license before the April 1 deadline," said Douglas K. Tobin, PennDOT's director of driver licensing.
All drivers of heavy vehicles, buses and large vans as well as drivers who carry hazardous materials must undergo the exams and receive their commercial driver license by April 1.
Under federal law, the deadline cannot be extended.
To date, PennDOT has issued 191,032 commercial licenses. Another 57,380 drivers have begun CDL testing procedures but have not yet received a license.
The PennDOT headquarters is located at Commonwealth Avenue and Forster Street in downtown Harrisburg.
