PENNDOT ACTS TO SECURE MANAGER FOR CAPITAL CITY AIRPORT
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Transportation Secretary Howard Yerusalim today announced that Johnson Controls World Services Inc. has been provisionally selected to manage and operate Capital City Airport, the state-owned airport in northern York County just outside Harrisburg.
"Johnson Controls demonstrated the proven track record and the strong focus on customer service that we were looking for in selecting a firm to manage Capital City," Yerusalim said.
Johnson Controls, of Teterboro, N.J., manages the Teterboro Airport, the Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., and Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J. The company also provides fixed-based operator services at Greater Pittsburgh International Airport and manages the terminal at the Atlantic City International Airport.
PennDOT has entered final negotiations with the firm to develop a contract for the Capital City facility. Negotiations are expected to conclude by mid summer.
Part of PennDOT's long-range plan for Capital City includes hiring a private company to manage day-to-day operations and to expand services at the airport.
Johnson Controls will be responsible for redeveloping the airport property, including the main terminal; for developing an industrial marketing plan to attract more business and increase revenues, and for improving passenger services.
The airport's long-range plan, called the Capital City Airport Renaissance Plan, calls for expanding business and general aviation traffic. Much of that traffic is expected to come from nearby Harrisburg International Airport, which the Commonwealth also owns, thus increasing commercial airline capacity at HIA.
"General aviation users have high standards when choosing an airport," Yerusalim said. "We want to provide the full range of modern, convenient services our general aviation customers seek at Capital City."
Johnson Controls was one of three firms that submitted proposals for the Capital City contract.
