PECO LIGHTS UP QUEST FOR PHILLIES ALL-STAR VOTES

PHILADELPHIA, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The stretch drive for votes in Major League Baseball's All-Star Balloting has been highlighted by the dedication of Philadelphia Electric Company's (PECO) Crown Lights message boards to fanning interest in voting for Phillies All-Star candidates.
The Phillies return from a seven-day road trip on Friday, July 1, to face a three-game series with the San Diego Padres. Fans may obtain ballots by attending one of the Phillies-Padres games, by stopping by the Veterans Stadium ticket office, or by stopping by the sports department of any J.C.Penney's department store in the Delaware Valley area. Ballots may be cast for the Phillies All-Stars now through Sunday, July 4.
Since first blinking to life almost 17 years ago, more than 10,000 messages have been carried by the "Crown Lights," the bank of bulbs that circumnavigates the top of the 27-story PECO headquarters building at 2301 Market Street, a local landmark on the Philadelphia skyline. In February, upgrades were made to the Crown Lights, making the messages easier to read. The renovations included the removal of eight metal columns to clear the view of several banks of bulbs, the addition of 600 new light fixtures, boosting the total number of bulbs to 2,600, 10,000 new wiring connections and a new computer hardware and message control system.
During its history, the Crown Lights, which are programmed by a computer, have noted national and religious holidays, saluted regional cultural events aiding charities, cheered Olympic heroes, welcomed presidents and popes, congratulated local sports teams winning championships, and welcomed Monday Night Football to town.
