PECO: ELECTRIC USAGE DURING SUMMER OF '93 MOST EVER

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- There's more evidence that the Summer of '93 was one of the hottest ever.
Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) (PECO) said its electric output for its customers during the three-month summer period set a new all-time record.
From June through August this year, the output total surpassed 9.82 billion kilowatt-hours. This was 10.3 percent greater than the same period in 1992 and nearly one percent greater than the scorching summer of 1988.
PECO said total output during August 1993 was more than 3.34 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, 12.3 percent greater than August 1992 making it the fifth highest month on record.
The company said electric output for customers also exceeded 100 million kilowatt-hours on more individual days in the summer of 1993 than any previous summer. From June through August, there were 62 days with 100 million kilowatt-hours of electric output, compared with only 32 in the summer of 1992.
Corbin A. McNeill Jr., PECO president and chief operating officer, said, "We are extremely proud of the reliable performance of our generating units this summer. Led by the nuclear units at Limerick, Peach Bottom, and Salem, PECO provided for the energy needs of its customers during the highest demand period in history."
PECO's Limerick and Peach Bottom plants contributed 63 percent of the total electric production. Limerick's two units performed at 98.8 percent of full capacity during the summer months.
