PEACH BOTTOM UNIT 3 MANUALLY SHUT DOWN

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO) said Unit 3 at its Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County, Pa., was manually shut down this morning to make repairs to a reactor water injection valve.
The reactor was safely shut down shortly before 6 a.m. There was no emergency and no release of radiation.
The Company said appropriate federal, state and local officials were notified.
PECO said the unit is expected to be out of service for about a week.
In addition to repairs to the valve, a control rod drive will be replaced and other maintenance tasks will be performed during the outage.
Peach Bottom Unit 2, which continues to operate at 100 percent power, was unaffected by the Unit 3 shutdown.
