PEACH BOTTOM UNIT 2 SET FOR REFUELING OUTAGE
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company

(NYSE: PE) said today that Unit 2 at its Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County, Pa., will be taken out of service on Saturday, Sept. 12, for a planned, 2-1/2 month refueling and maintenance outage.
During the outage, 268 of the unit's 764 fuel bundles will be replaced, 21 plant modifications will be performed, and more than 3,800 maintenance tasks and surveillance tests will be completed.
Some 1,700 workers, including PE and contract personnel, will participate in the outage, which is expected to be completed in early December.
The nation's nuclear units routinely undergo maintenance and refueling outages every 18 to 24 months.
Donald B. Miller Jr., PE vice president, Peach Bottom, said that the extensive series of modifications, maintenance and tests is geared to assuring safe, efficient operation of the unit for the next two years.
"We have an outstanding outage team at Peach Bottom," he said, "and we are confident they will do an excellent job. Our number one commitment is the protection of the health and safety of plant workers and the community, and this task is a major aspect of maintaining that commitment."
In 1992, Peach Bottom Unit 2 has operated at more than 83 percent of full capacity through August, generating more than 5 million megawatt- hours (mwh) of electricity, bringing its all-time electric output past 87 million mwh.
