OF PENNSYLVANIA CHAMBER OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Nicholas DeBenedictis, Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) senior vice president, has been elected to the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.
DeBenedictis, a Philadelphia resident, was elected this morning at the Pennsylvania Chamber's Annual Meeting in Harrisburg. He was chosen as a member of the Southeast District Executives board and will represent the 21 local chambers in the five-county region before the state Chamber on issues such as taxes, the environment, and economic development.
In its 75th year, the Pennsylvania Chamber represents the diverse private employer community, taking statewide leadership on legislation, policies and issues affecting the business community and quality of life in Pennsylvania.
DeBenedictis, 46, joined PE in April 1989 as senior vice president, Corporate and Public Affairs, responsible for governmental relations; the development and implementation of PE's public policy positions, including programs for environmental protection and economic development; and direct contact with the public, business community and media.
Prior to joining PE, DeBenedictis was president of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. From 1981 to 1986, he held two cabinet posts with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, serving as secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and head of the Office of Economic Development.
"PE has always worked closely with area business groups. With my experience in Harrisburg and the Philadelphia Chamber, I hope all area chambers can gain a closer, more beneficial interaction with the state," DeBenedictis said.
DeBenedictis serves on the board of directors of many regional business, economic, environmental and education organizations, and he has received numerous awards for public service.
