 PE NAMES TWO NEW NUCLEAR VICE PRESIDENTS
 PHILADELPHIA, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) has elected David R. Helwig, vice president, Limerick Generating Station, and Gerald R. Rainey, vice president, Nuclear Services, to be effective July 20.
 Helwig, 41, of Wallingford, Pa., replaces Graham M. Leitch who will retire from the company on Aug. 1. Helwig is currently vice president, Nuclear Engineering and Services.
 Rainey, 43, of Chadds Ford, Pa., will assume the nuclear services responsibilities as Nuclear Engineering and Services is being reorganized.
 Gregory V. Cranston, 49, of Wayne, Pa., has been appointed general manager, Nuclear Engineering.
 PE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Joseph F. Paquette Jr. said, "David Helwig has played an important role in the revitalization of our nuclear program. His new assignment will give him valuable operating experience to add to the excellent performance he has had as head of Nuclear Engineering and Services.
 "We are delighted to promote Gerald Rainey to vice president, Nuclear Services. He has demonstrated his abilities as a leader and team builder while manager of our Eddystone Generating Station. His personnel skills are outstanding and this is critical to the future success of the company. He comes back to our nuclear group where he previously spent 11 years most recently playing an important role in the restart of our Peach Bottom plant."
 Regarding Graham Leitch's retirement, Paquette said, "Graham has had an outstanding 36-year career with PE. He has been at Limerick since 1975 during its construction, and was responsible for the successful start-up and operation of both Units 1 and 2. Limerick's performance as one of the outstanding plants in the country is testimony to Graham's leadership and commitment to nuclear excellence."
 Helwig is a graduate of the University of Delaware and has been employed with PE for 19 years. He earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. He also attended Duke University's advanced management program in 1987.
 Prior to his position as vice president, Nuclear Engineering and Services, he was general manager of PE's Nuclear Quality Assurance and Assistant to the executive vice president of Nuclear.
 Rainey was graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering from Widener University and he attended the Fuqua Business School at Duke University. He has been with PE for 23 years and he comes to his new position after having been manager of PE's Eddystone Station in Delaware County, Pa. Prior to that he was maintenance superintendent at PE's Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in York County, Pa.
 Cranston was graduated with a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and earned his MBA at the Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He also completed the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power Training program and completed his military service in the nuclear submarine program.
 Cranston has been manager, Nuclear Engineering, since May 1991 when he joined PE. Prior to that he served in a similar capacity for three years at Detroit Edison. He also served as manager of Nuclear Engineering for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District for two years.
