PB engineers to design Erie Canal Harbor.
The project involves the "re-watering" of the "Commercial Slip," the location of the historic western terminus of the Erie Canal at the Buffalo River and an important commerce hub in the 1800's.
Major components include reconstruction of historic bulkhead walls, the creation of mooring facilities for Great Lakes cruise vessels, the recreation of a historic bridge, and the demolition and relocation of a combined sewer overflow outfall. The redevelopment is an anchor project for adjacent development efforts, including the redevelopment of the Memorial Auditorium into an entertainment/retail complex, a new parking garage, and other retail and entertainment venues.
PB is responsible for engineering design for all of the marine project components. The engineering work will be done in conjunction with an urban design team that includes local and national architecture, landscape architecture, and historic interpretation firms.
Construction of the project will commence in late 2004.
Completion is scheduled for sometime in 2007.
