PAYLESS CASHWAYS BEGINS SELLING NEW PRODUCT LINE; PELLA CORPORATION ENTERS NATIONAL RETAIL MARKET FOR FIRST TIME

PELLA, Iowa, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary Christensen, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Pella Corporation, announced today that for the first time ever, Pella ProLine(TM) products will be sold in the national retail market using the Payless Cashways chain as a distribution channel. Established in 1925, Pella Corporation is the world's second largest manufacturer of wood windows, doors, sunrooms and skylights.
According to Christensen, Pella Corporation recognized that consumers are flocking to new retailing channels through power retailers like Payless Cashways.
"The ability to offer Pella products in a home center environment began with an intensive product development project nearly four years ago. It culminated with the introduction of the Pella ProLine product line in 1992. For over 65 years, we've sold our products to architects, builders and homeowners whose requirements for a specific combination of options made each sale an engineered solution. However, we recognized that a great number of window decisions are made on the other side of the spectrum.
"It made sense as more and more retail giants began to come into power, Pella Corporation should use this unique distribution channel as a tool for reaching out to American consumers. Payless Cashways is a great partner for us and our ProLine product as we aggressively enter the national retail arena. They're committed to selling quality brands just as we're committed to manufacturing quality brands," stated Christensen.
Pella Corporation's national retail program was launched in December 1992 when Payless Cashways began selling the ProLine product in 21 mountain states.
In addition to distributing its ProLine product through Payless Cashways, Pella Corporation will continue to market its other products through Pella Window Stores nationwide.
Payless Cashways operates 195 stores in 26 states and is the nation's third largest building materials retailer.
