PAULSON CAPITAL CORP. APPOINTS JACK ALEXANDER VICE PRESIDENT
 AND DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL MARKETING
Appointee to Head Subsidiary's Drive to Expand
 National Network of Independent Brokers
PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Paulson Capital Corp. (NASDAQ: PLCC), headquartered here, today said it had named Jack A. Alexander, 56, as vice president and director of national marketing of the company's wholly owned subsidiary, Paulson Investment Co. (PIC). Alexander will spearhead PIC's publicly stated objective to expand its national network of independent registered representatives from a current total of 150 to more than 300 by year-end 1992.
Alexander has been associated with the securities and investment industry for over 30 years. In 1974, he founded First Affiliated Securities of San Diego and served as the company's president and chief executive officer until 1986. When FAS was acquired by American First Corp. in 1982, Alexander became senior vice president of AFCO's financial services group and a member of that company's board. During Alexander's 12-year association with FAS, the company grew to encompass over 200 offices, 650 registered representatives and annual commission income of $60 million.
From 1960 to 1974, Alexander held a series of executive positions with Roberts, Scott & Co., a New York Stock Exchange-listed brokerage firm, serving as president and chairman of that company from 1968.
Most recently, Alexander was founder and president of IIBA Holdings Inc., a publicly traded financial services organization with 23 offices in 40 states.
Over the course of his career, Alexander has raised more than $1 billion in new capital for more than 100 companies via public offerings of equity or debt securities and through private placements.
PIC President Chet Paulson said Alexander would be "instrumental" in fueling the company's drive to expand its national independent brokerage network. "Jack's accomplishments and experience in the investment industry make him the ideal candidate for this program," he said. "We have no doubt that he will help us reach our goals and beyond in the months and years ahead."
Alexander is a graduate of the New York Institute of Finance and the University of Texas School of Business. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Paulson Investment Co. is a full-service broker-dealer firm operating out of 57 offices in 13 states. During the first 11 months of 1991, PIC raised more than $36 million in equity capital for seven investment banking clients and $9 million for a municipal bond offering in the state of Oregon.
