PARENTS TO RECOGNIZE CHILD CARE PROVIDERS THROUGH "THANKS FOR LOVING CARE" EVENT AT DAYTON HUDSON STORES

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Sept. 12, customers at Dayton Hudson Corporation's stores will have a new way to give a well-deserved "Thanks!" to their child care providers through a new promotion called "Thanks for Loving Care."
Between Sept. 12 and 25, customers shopping in the Huggies aisle at Target and the children's departments of Mervyn's, Dayton's, Hudson's or Marshall Field's stores will find signs encouraging them to enter the names of their child care providers in the "Thanks for Loving Care" Sweepstakes.
Customers may retain the bottom half of the entry form, which says, "Thank you for brightening my child's day -- every day." This may be shared with child care providers as a way of thanking them for their efforts. The providers may then redeem their thank-you notes for free gifts at the stores.
Sweepstakes winners will be selected in early November. Each winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to the store at which they were entered into the sweepstakes. Customers' compliments about their child care providers will be included in display newspaper advertisements in Dayton Hudson's key business markets in November.
"Since 1988, we have committed $10 million to increasing quality child care in America through our Child Care Aware initiative," said Kenneth A. Macke, chairman and chief executive officer of Dayton Hudson Corporation.
"We want to demonstrate how important quality child care is by recognizing the thousands of dedicated and talented people who provide professional, high-quality care for our children every working day," Macke added.
"Thanks for Loving Care" is part of Dayton Hudson's $10 million, seven-year Child Care Aware national public service education program designed to increase quality child care in America. Child Care Aware provides parents with a five-step plan and a checklist to help them identify and select quality child care.
Child Care Aware also offers a toll-free information line (1-800-424-2246) where parents may call to receive referrals to non- profit child care resource and referral agencies in their own communities.
Child Care Aware is a cooperative effort between Dayton Hudson, its foundation and its Target, Mervyn's, Dayton's, Hudson's and Marshall Field's stores and several prominent child care organizations: Child Care Action Campaign, the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for Family Day Care.
Dayton Hudson Corporation is one of the nation's largest retailers, with 1992 revenues of $17.9 billion. Dayton Hudson specializes in large-store, general-merchandise formats, including discount stores, moderate-priced promotional and traditional department stores.
