PARAS and new recruits have jumped at the chance to sign up for the Great Scottish Run.

About 30 members of 4 Para, the Reserve Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, will wear their full military kit and heavy packs for the 10k and half-marathon courses at the event in Glasgow in October.

Warrant Officer Davy McLellan said: "We are always looking at training challenges for the soldiers to push their fitness levels and the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run is a great way for them to have fun while doing this."

Organisers are hoping 25,000 runners will take part.
