BACKGROUND: Paramount celebrates its 80th anniversary in July 1992, having been founded by movie pioneers Adolf Zukor, Jesse Lasky, Samuel Goldwyn and Cecil B. De Mille in 1912. It has occupied its historic movie lot in Hollywood since 1926 and is the only major movie studio still headquartered in the Hollywood area. In 1983, its outdoor New York Street burned to the ground in a tragic fire. This year, Paramount has constructed the movie industry's most advanced permanent outdoor set. Studios have traditionally called such sets "New York Street," although they are often used to duplicate virtually any city. Paramount's new New York set has several identifiable "neighborhoods" from Wall Street to Soho, and Brooklyn to Washington Square. CONTACT: Harry Anderson, 213-956-5845, or James Arnold, 231-956-5767, both of Paramount. -0- 7/29/92
