PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO ANNOUNCES EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT
WITH GALOOB TOYS FOR ITS GAME GENIE PRODUCTS
HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective immediately, Paramount Home Video will exclusively distribute Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc.'s (NYSE: GAL) Game Genie (TM) video game enhancer products to video rental and sell-through retailers throughout the U.S. Under the long-term arrangement, Paramount will distribute all four configurations of the Game Genie to the video trade. Making the announcement were Eric Doctorow, executive vice president of Paramount Home Video, and Gary J. Niles, executive vice president of Galoob.
Game Genies currently are available of the Nintendo Entertainment System (R) (NES(R)), Super NES (TM), as well as the Sega (TM) Genesis (TM) system. When it becomes available from Galoob, Paramount also will distribute the Game Genie for the Game Boy (TM).
The popular accessory allows players to temporarily change and customize their favorite games, and provides increased power and energy. The newest version, for the Super NES, enables players to add up to five special effects at a time (two more than available with the NES Game Genie) and can be turned on and off at will. To date, more than 1.6 million Game Genies have been sold in the United States and Western Europe for the NES alone.
"We're delighted to be announcing this distribution arrangement with Galoob, since it represents our launching into an exciting new category of home entertainment," said Mr. Doctorow. "Plus, it's a great opportunity for video stores -- many of which already are renting or selling video games -- to enhance their businesses by inventorying the Game Genie for sale or rental to their customer." According to Mr. Doctorow, video retailers interested in purchasing any of the four Game Genie enhancers may do so by contacting their authorized Paramount Home Video distributor.
"Paramount offers a terrific sales and marketing organization and distributor network, and we're very pleased that they'll be our exclusive channel to video stores," said Mr. Niles. "Video stores represent a grater and greater market for game software and accessories, and we believe this new venture is a 'win-win' situation for all involved."
Lewis Galoob Toys, Inc. designs, develops, markets and sells quality toy and video game products worldwide.
Paramount Home Video is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCI).
