PARAMOUNT ANNOUNCES 'PASSPORT TO SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT II'
TO PROMOTE STUDIO'S SLATE OF SUMMER FILMS
HOLLYWOOD, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In a reprise of last year's highly successful "Passport to Summer Entertainment," Paramount Pictures announces "Passport to Summer Entertainment II," which teams Paramount with Travelodge, Subway and the Musicland/Sam Goody/Suncoast Motion Picture Co. stores in an effort designed to promote the studio's outstanding slate of summer films while offering consumers excitement at theaters throughout North America with an instant win value-added promotion.
Twenty million instant win cards will be distributed to patrons who purchase tickets to a Paramount movie throughout the summer at up to 2,000 participating theaters in the United States and Canada. The program begins with the opening of "Patriot Games" on June 5, and continues through Aug. 23.
More than a half billion consumer impressions are expected to be generated from this promotion, tying in Paramount with its promotional partners. This year's advertising awareness program is extensive and uses, among other media, a national print campaign, credit card direct mail pieces, point-of-purchase displays, counter and tabletop displays, standees, video displays, audio messages, envelope stuffers and posters.
"We're extremely pleased to be continuing the 'Passport' program this year, as the public's response last year was outstanding," said Wayne Lewellen, Paramount's president of domestic distribution. "And, in no small part because of the cooperation of our exhibition partners in this venture, Alan Cordover and his team have created an even more effective and involved program for this summer."
In addition to "Patriot Games," which stars Harrison Ford and Anne Archer, Paramount's summer '92 releases include "Boomerang," starring Eddie Murphy; "Cool World," a Ralph Bakshi film which combines live action and animation and stars Kim Basinger, Gabriel Byrne and Brad Pitt; and "Bebe's Kids," an animated feature based on characters created by the late comedian Robin Harris.
Consumer prizes include Chrysler Laser RS Turbo AWD cars; a dream 14-day vacation trip for two to London sponsored by Travelodge; multiple trips for two to San Diego and Orlando, Fla.; and multiple electronic prizes, including VCRs, camcorders, CD players, etc. Other winners will receive discounts on the "Great Movies, Great Price" collection of videotapes from Paramount Home Video redeemable exclusively through the Musicland Group. Additionally, other winners will receive a $5 gift certificate good for lodging at Travelodge and special purchase offers on various Paramount movie-related items.
The participating partners include 600 Travelodge hotel/motel properties throughout North America (40,000-plus rooms), 6,000 Subway Sandwich shops throughout North America and 1,100 Musicland/Sam Goody/Suncoast music stores.
Among the other cross-promotions are an offer from Travelodge for four complimentary passes to a Paramount movie for guests staying five or more nights. Also, Travelodges will play an in-room video featuring Paramount summer movie trailers and information on the Passport program. Subway stores will display tabletop tent cards and posters featuring Paramount's summer product and Passport information. The Musicland Group will feature large P.O.P. displays and will run a trailer showing summer product as well as information on the "Great Movies, Great Price" video program.
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
