PARAMOUNT ANNOUNCES 'CONEHEADS' TIE-IN WITH SUBWAY

HOLLYWOOD, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Motion Picture Group of Paramount Pictures announced today a major promotion that ties in the studio's summer release "Coneheads" with Subway Sandwich shops throughout America and Canada.
The promotion, which will begin several weeks prior to the late July release of the film, will allow consumers to purchase a premium item related to "Coneheads" in any Subway Sandwich shop. The promotion, the largest movie tie-in ever for Subway, will include multimillion dollar national television advertising support.
"Anticipation for `Coneheads' is already high, and this promotion with Subway will add greatly to the excitement," said Arthur Cohen, president of worldwide marketing for Paramount's Motion Picture Group. "We're extremely pleased to be working with Subway again."
"We are very excited about our association with `Coneheads,'" said Richard Pilchen, marketing vice president for Subway Sandwiches. "The unique nature of the characters, and their ability to `consume mass quantities' at will, makes `Coneheads' a great promotional property for Subway. We look forward to working with Paramount and to a great summer '93 promotion."
Paramount previously teamed with Subway in 1992's highly successful "Passport to Summer Entertainment II," which was designed to promote Paramount's slate of summer films while offering consumers excitement at theaters with an instant win value-added promotion.
"Coneheads" is based on the characters made famous in the classic "Saturday Night Live" sketches, with Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin reprising their roles as Beldar and Prymaat Conehead, continuing their misadventures in suburban America. Joining Aykroyd and Curtin will be Michelle Burke as their teenage daughter, Connie. Laraine Newman, who created the role of Connie, will portray Laarta, Prymaat's sister.
Lorne Michaels is the producer of the film and Steve Barron directs the screenplay written by Aykroyd, Tom Davis, Bonnie Turner, and Terry Turner. Michael Rachmil is the executive producer.
Subway Sandwiches operates more than 7,500 sandwich shops around the world.
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCI).
