PARAMAX UNVEILS DETAILS OF RADAR PROGRAMS TO ENHANCE AIR SAFETY MODE;

 Two new programs developed for the Federal Aviation Administration by Paramax Systems Corporation are showing successful results in enhancing air safety. Paramax will brief the press on details of Mode Select Radar and Microburst Prediction Radar at "ATCA '92: Transition to the Future."
 Mode Select Radar (Mode S) will begin replacement of the current secondary radar system (ATCRBS) beginning in early 1993. The new system, to first be installed at Baltimore-Washington Airport, will work with transponders aboard aircraft to provide data links and improved surveillance information, such as aircraft identification tags and location/positioning data, to the air traffic controller. Over the next four to five years, an additional 136 Mode S systems will be implemented at terminal, enroute and other facilities throughout the United States
 Paramax's new ground-based Microburst Prediction Radar recently completed testing at both Denver's Stapleton Airport and Orlando International Airport and demonstrated an ability to accurately predict the severity and location of microbursts with lead times of 2-5 minutes. The new radar is the only ground-based radar that can detect the precursors of microbursts in the upper atmosphere and determine where and when a microburst will reach ground level.
