PARAMAX RECEIVES SIX-YEAR, $436 MILLION EXTENSION FOR SPACE
 SHUTTLE SOFTWARE WORK
MCLEAN, Va., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramax Systems Corporation announced today that its Space Systems unit will continue to be responsible for space shuttle ground-based software until 2001 through contract options exercised in advance. The extension, which lengthens Paramax's participation in the shuttle program to 15 years, is valued at $436 million. Paramax, formerly Unisys Defense Systems, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Unisys Corporation.
Rockwell Space Operations Company, prime contractor on the Space Transportation System Operations Contract (STSOC), has exercised three two-year renewal options for calendar years 1995 through 2000. The action followed a corresponding continuation of Rockwell's contract by Johnson Space Center (JSC).
"The extension of our shuttle software work is a tribute to employees' dedication to manned spaceflight," said John B. Munson, Space Systems vice president. "Thanks to their outstanding efforts, we will have the honor of helping build Space Station Freedom," Munson said.
Paramax software is used in all stages of shuttle operations, including flight design and mission planning; astronaut and flight controller training; and command, control and communications in JSC's Mission Control Center. The company also provides preflight and postflight verification of shuttle software, systems and components.
In addition to its space shuttle responsibilities, Paramax supplies software products, services and support for Space Station Control Center development, Mission Control Center upgrades, space station operations, and software product and quality assurance at JSC.
