PARAMAX PRESIDENT CHALLENGES SUPPLIERS TO SUPPORT COMPANY STRATEGIES IN SHRINKING DEFENSE MARKETPLACE

MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Albert F. Zettlemoyer, president of Paramax Systems Corporation, yesterday challenged the company's leading suppliers to become partners in Paramax's drive to maintain profitability in the face of declining purchases by the Department of Defense. Zettlemoyer spoke at a conference of Paramax's "critical suppliers" -- companies that provide key products and technology used in electronic systems and products built by Paramax.
Zettlemoyer stressed the need for suppliers to join Paramax in "adjusting to the realities of a changing marketplace" by improving their own quality, productivity and competitiveness. He noted that Paramax views its critical suppliers as "partners" who provide essential engineering and manufacturing expertise and who play a key role in helping to keep Paramax's systems and products competitive.
Paramax's goal is to establish long-term, win-win relationships with a select group of highly productive suppliers who take more responsibility for high-quality, dependable performance. Each relationship will be characterized by trust, communications, ethical behavior and a commitment to mutual success.
Zettlemoyer explained that Paramax is "recreating itself to diversify its business base (both defense and commercial) and to keep traditional businesses profitable as the markets shrink. We believe that our critical suppliers must do the same." He added that Paramax will focus on those defense markets projected to grow during the years ahead, both in the United States and internationally -- for example, integrated command, control, communication and intelligence systems; mine hunter technology; and technology that allows anti-submarine warfare platforms to perform multi-mission roles. Paramax is also working to increase its civil government and commercial businesses, in areas such as weather technology; air traffic control; postal technology; and commercial information systems (in partnership with Unisys Commercial).
Paramax Systems Corporation, headquartered in McLean, is a $2 billion information systems company with 16,000 employees. A subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS), Blue Bell, Pa., Paramax is an experienced leader in providing advanced integrated systems, electronic products and related professional services for civil and defense agencies in the United States, Canada and nations worldwide.
