PARAMAX INTRODUCES NEW INTEGRATED TOWER SYSTEMS
AT THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramax Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS), is introducing its new concept for an integrated tower system at the Air Traffic Control Association show in Atlantic City, N.J.
The integrated tower system incorporates air traffic control with several new surface guidance functions into a centralized tower management system. The demonstration details the Paramax automated solution to the clutter of dissimilar information currently residing in the current tower configurations and brings state-of-the-art solutions to the fingertips of tower controllers. The integrated tower system being demonstrated utilizes four distinct segments:
-- Airport Surface Safety -- Shows airport surface scenarios of runway incursion incidence and demonstrates automated alerting capability. Also featured is a ground radar display provided by Astronautics Corporation of America.
-- Consolidated Tower Information Display -- Demonstrates ways to reduce clutter in the ATC tower by using high-brightness color monitors, line displays and a Transparent Window Display System (provided by Astronautics) that is actually projected onto the tower window for heads-up viewing.
-- Airport Area Surveillance -- Mode Select surveillance data is presented on the FAA's current high brightness tower display DBRITE. A Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) demonstration by Trimble Navigation, Ltd., shows capabilities for increased surveillance accuracies.
-- Surface Movement Guidance (SMG) -- Features actual in-pavement taxiway lights providing Lead-In, Stop-Bar and Lead-On lights using the Airfield Smart Power (ASP) program from Airport Technology. SMG is an airfield and taxiway lighting system for low visibility conditions planned to meet FAA applications in 1995.
