PARAMAX AWARDED OPTION FOR LANDING CRAFT
 AIR CUSHION ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS
MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramax Systems Corporation announced today that it has been awarded contract options, valued at $14.5 million, for 12 command and surveillance systems for the U.S. Navy's Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC). The award is from Textron Marine Systems of New Orleans, the prime contractor and builder of the craft. Paramax, formerly Unisys Defense Systems, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS).
Paramax is the sole electronic systems integrator for the LCAC and is under contract for 87 shipsets, of which 62 have been delivered. Forty-six LCAC craft are currently deployed with both Atlantic and Pacific naval forces. The fully integrated command and surveillance system contains sensors, displays, surface search radar, communications and an automated navigation system.
The LCAC, which saw use during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, is the primary Naval/Marine Corps amphibious assault craft. It can transport troops, equipment and weapons over greater sea distances than could its predecessor and provides an over-the-horizon assault capability onto and beyond the beach. The craft is powered by four gas-turbine engines that turn two, four-bladed, reversible-pitch, 12-foot propellers that give the craft its forward thrust. Four centrifugal-action fans provide lift.
Paramax Systems Corporation, headquartered in McLean, is a $2 billion information systems company with 16,000 employees. A subsidiary of Unisys Corporation, Blue Bell, Pa., Paramax is an experienced leader in providing advanced integrated systems, electronic products and related professional services for civil and defense agencies in the United States, Canada and nations worldwide.
Unisys Corporation is a leading information systems company with 60,000 customers in more than 100 countries. The company is a leading manufacturer of commercial information systems, defense systems and related services.
