PANGEA PRESIDENT AND CORPORATE DIRECTION ANNOUNCED; 'BRINGING THE WORLD BACK TOGETHER THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS'
SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 1 ~PRNewswire~ -- Pangea, an organizaiton specializing in enterprise internetwork integration, announced Michael Tharenos as president. Tharenos has more than 10 years of system integration experience and provides expert understanding of current and emerging technologies within the fields of computer networks and communications systems. As the immediate past director of Show Networks for Interop Co., Tharenos brings to Pangea the knowledge and experience of designing, implementing and managing highly complex computer networks. Under the supervision of Tharenos, Pangea managed the design and implementation of the "show network" for the 1991 and 1992 INTEROP Conference and Exhibitions. These show networks connected nearly 400 companies on one of the world's most complex multi-media, multi-protocol networks which were designed to be installed in less than one day in the San Jose, Washington D.C. and Moscone convention centers. Prior to starting Pangea, Tharenos was the service manager for the Bay Area Regional Research Network (BARRNet) in Stanford, Calif. BARRNet provides over 100 Bay Area user companies with both local and worldwide network services including connection to the worldwide TCP~IP-based Internet. Tharenos managed the engineering, planning and support for BARRNet and was responsible for the routing and design for interconnection of campus and corporate networks to the National Science Foundation NSFnet backbone network. Before leaving BARRNet, Tharenos was involved in implementing a recently introduced low-speed service connection alternative. Before his tenure at BARRNet, Tharenos was employed by IBM Research between 1983 and 1989. Among his other responsibilities at IBM, Tharenos was the architect of the high-speed, multiprotocol campus network for IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, Calif. His other assignments at IBM included managing the design, installation, operation and planning of experimental and production voice, video and data networks within the research center. Tharenos was additionally responsible for the architecture and implementation of IBM's corporate TCP~IP network interconnecting IBM research and development sites in the United States and Europe. Pangea was formed in 1990 to specialize in and assist organizations with the design, specification, planning and implementation of enterprise networks. The company's primary services include network needs analysis and strategic planning, cabling system planning, internetwork systems implementation and facilities management, network administrator procedures, network management systems, network performance optimization, system and network integration.
