SECAUCUS, N.J., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- With the first FZ-1 REAL(TM) 3DO(TM) Interactive Multiplayers(TM) systems arriving soon on store shelves across the nation, Panasonic has unveiled additional details on advertising and marketing plans for the launch of this breakthrough product.
The system -- the first to utilize the interactive power of the new 3DO technology -- will be available in early October, along with a varied library of software titles. In fact, included with the REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayer will be "Crash 'N Burn," a 3-D combat racing game from 3DO software licensee Crystal Dynamics. A second disc packaged with each unit will include brief interactive programs, plus information on the FZ-1, 3DO technology and future programs.
Supporting the product launch will be one of the most extensive sales, advertising and promotion programs in Panasonic Company history.
To create broad public awareness of -- and interest in -- the new interactive system, an aggressive schedule of local and national print and television advertising has been planned, targeted both toward families and individual family members. The product will be positioned as a versatile and realistic system that can be used by all members of the family for interactive entertainment and education.
Television commercials, for example, are planned for fall on youth- oriented cable programs, as well as for network news, entertainment and sporting programs to reach older audiences. A series of two-page spread ads emphasizing games, entertainment and educational applications is also planned for major consumer and electronic game and hobbyist magazines.
In all instances, advertising will drive home the power of this new interactive technology and lifelike realism with a simple, but potent message: "This is REAL!" Central to the advertising message is the point that the REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayer delivers performance...and excitement...up to 50 times more powerful than conventional computer and video game systems.
To support retail sales efforts, Panasonic is preparing a nationwide in-store program that will enable consumers to experience the excitement first-hand. Specially designed kiosks with REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayers will enable customers to experience the power of 3DO and sample the many software titles available. In-store demonstrators and eye-catching point-of-purchase materials designed to stimulate retail traffic will also be available to dealers.
To further support dealers in the launch of this new product, Panasonic has prepared a comprehensive local advertising kit. With its camera-ready ad slicks and clip art, dealers will have everything necessary to create a powerful local advertising campaign that will bring potential 3DO customers to their stores.
In addition, a seven-market mall tour will begin Oct. 9. Supported by local dealer tie-ins, the tour will take Panasonic REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayers to the nation's premier shopping malls in such key markets as New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, D.C., and Minneapolis/St. Paul. A second national mall tour is planned for January-February 1994.
