PANAMCO ELECTS WILLIAM G. COOLING OF COLGATE-PALMOLIVE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 MEXICO CITY, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Panamerican Beverages, Inc. (NYSE: PB) announced today that William G. Cooling, senior executive vice president of Colgate-Palmolive Company and chief of operations, specialty marketing and international business development, has been elected to the company's Board of Directors. With the election of Mr. Cooling, Panamco's Board of Directors increases to eight members from seven.
 Francisco Sanchez-Loaeza, chief executive officer and president of Panamco, said, "We are very pleased to welcome Bill Cooling to our Board of Directors. His extensive experience with Colgate-Palmolive, expertise in consumer products and understanding of varied international markets will be valuable assets to Panamco."
 Since being promoted to his current position in 1992, Mr. Cooling has been responsible for Hill's Pet Nutrition, Princess House and the Institutional Products Division in the United States. In addition, his responsibilities include Eastern Europe, the Mideast, the former Soviet Republics and the Pan-African Operating Division. He also oversees the newly consolidated, Paris-based Global Export function and is responsible for corporate real estate and facilities management.
 In October 1987, Mr. Cooling became executive vice president and chief technological officer of the Colgate-Palmolive company, with responsibility for research and development, patents, manufacturing engineering technology, purchasing, total quality, environmental affairs, global business systems and real estate.
 From 1975 to 1987, Mr. Cooling held various positions of increasing responsibility at Colgate, including vice president and corporate controller of Colgate's worldwide operations, vice president and general manager of the Northern European Division and group vice president, corporate manufacturing, purchasing and information resources management. Prior to joining Colgate-Palmolive, Mr. Cooling was controller and vice president of finance of the Huston Company, a Canadian manufacturer and marketer of consumer goods, which became part of the Colgate group of companies in 1973.
 Panamco is the largest soft drink bottler in Latin America and the world's largest bottler of soft drink products of The Coca-Cola Company outside the United States. The company produces and distributes substantially all Coca-Cola soft drink products, bottled water and other beverages in its franchise territories in Mexico, Colombia and Brazil. Panamco has 25,000 employees and had consolidated net sales of $957 million in 1992.
