PAINTINGS BY ROBERT SYLVAIN TO BE EXHIBITED BEGINNING DEC. 15

VIRGINIA GARDENS, Fla., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Galeria Vanidades, 6355 Northwest 36th St., Virginia Gardens, Fla., announces the opening of an exhibition of paintings by the Haitian artist, Robert Sylvain, on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m.
Sylvain started as a painter when he was eight years old, painting watercolor Christmas cards, book covers and similar utilitarian artifacts. As a teenager, he explored the limits of traditionally Haitian primitive art, but since then, he has developed every aspect of his artistic potential (studying, traveling and visiting museums throughout the world) up to his current work: a sophisticated surrealism influenced by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Latin American artists. Sylvain's paintings are notable for their study of color and form. Refusing to be confined to do any particular style of tradition, he seeks to transcend national boundaries and ethnic stereotypes.
The exhibition of this talented artist will be open to the public until Jan. 5, 1994. Galeria Vanidades is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
