PAINT YOUR WAY TO THE 1992 OLYMPIC GAMES

PAINT YOUR WAY TO THE 1992 OLYMPIC GAMES
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- This spring, ambitious

do-it-yourselfers are projected to buy more than 136 million gallons of paint -- enough to cover an area the size of New Orleans.
Some homeowners will use interior paint in bedrooms and living rooms to create new looks with new colors. Others will use exterior paint when renovating or building an addition. Many will protect and stain exterior wood surfaces, like decks and fences. All are looking for a durable finish, to make their painting project last for years to come.
No matter what the project, if you're one of the 50 million Americans planning to do some sort of home improvement this spring, you can show your support for the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team while you get the look you want by purchasing any Pittsburgh Paints, Lucite Paints or Olympic Stain product, all made by PPG Architectural Finishes, Inc. (PPGAF).
As an exclusive sponsor in the paints and stains category for the U.S. Olympic Committee, PPGAF has pledged financial support and contributed $1 million worth of paints and stains for use at the U.S. Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Lake Placid, N.Y.; and San Diego.
"We are extremely proud to be a sponsor of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team and put our products to practical use for our athletes for years to come," said Michael Provenzano, director of marketing, PPGAF. More than 10,000 gallons of paint are expected to be used in a $19 million renovation and construction project at Colorado Springs during 1992, including a new aquatics facility, gymnasium, and dining and living facility. The U.S. Olympic Training Centers provide free room and board, training facilities and sports medicine care to athletes and coaches.
"PPG products have played an important role in supporting our Olympians," said Peter C. Kautza, director of the facility operations division for the U.S. Olympic Committee. "Our sites are subject to extreme wear because of the ongoing training, and PPG products were chosen because they can withstand the rigorous use associated with training."
PPGAF invites consumers to share the spirit of the 1992 Summer Olympic Games by entering PPG's Olympic Sweepstakes to win a trip for two to the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, Spain. Details are available on entry forms at participating retailers.
Pittsburgh Paints, Lucite Paints and Olympic Stain are available at paint and decorating stores, home centers and specialty products stores across the country.
PPGAF is a wholly owned subsidiary of PPG Industries, Inc. (NYSE: PPG)
