PAEDO SMEAR MAN JAILED FOR 30MTHS.
Byline: AZRA NASEEMA MAN who falsely branded a pub owner a paedophile in a poster campaign was jailed for 30 months yesterday.
Bernard Clyne, 61, put up signs calling the publican a "perv" after getting the idea from TV police series The Bill.
Clyne, from Foxrock in Dublin, was convicted of harassment in May.
Judge Katherine Delahunt yesterday warned he was lucky not to get seven years as she imposed the sentence in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
She told Clyne his actions, in April 2003, were very serious, but took his age and health into consideration.
Clyne said he did it as a favour to a friend who claimed his young son was sexually abused by the publican.
He earlier told the jury his friend had a terminal illness and asked him to get revenge shortly before he died in March last year.
However, Clyne denied it was in revenge for being barred from his victim's pub for singing.
The publican said he was distressed by the campaign.
