PACTEL CELLULAR-LOS ANGELES LAUNCHES HOME-RATE PRICING
FROM SAN LUIS OBISPO TO MEXICAN BORDER
IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Subscribers on PacTel Cellular's Greater Los Angeles system can now travel from San Luis Obispo to the Mexican border and pay only their regular home cellular rates along the entire 392-mile corridor. In most cases, the result will be lower cellular service bills to PacTel's customers.
Before the introduction of this expanded home-rate pricing, known as PacTel's "California Connection," customers of PacTel's Greater Los Angeles system traveling in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and San Diego County paid roaming rates that may have exceeded their home airtime rates. PacTel's "California Connection" now increases by 85 percent the area in which PacTel Cellular's Greater Los Angeles customers pay only their local airtime rates.
In addition, PacTel's "California Connection" simplifies airtime rates for its Greater Los Angeles customers who roam in more distant parts of California. Subscribers will now pay one standard rate of 60 cents per minute during both peak and off-peak hours when roaming anywhere in California other than in the San Diego, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo cellular service areas. The program also eliminates the daily access charges for these customers when roaming in all California markets.
"Subscribers on PacTel Cellular's Greater Los Angeles system travel extensively from San Luis Obispo through San Diego, with San Diego being their No. 1 roaming destination," said Brian Jones, PacTel Cellular area vice president for Los Angeles. "Home-rate cellular service from Central California to the Mexican border is a significant breakthrough, as is our simplified roaming rate for our customers traveling in other cellular coverage areas in California."
PacTel Cellular serves customers in eight of the top 25 U.S. cellular markets, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, San Diego, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit. PacTel Corp. also operates cellular, paging, vehicle location and international wireless businesses in many of the world's top markets, including the United States, Japan, Germany and France.
PacTel Cellular and PacTel Corp. are subsidiaries of Pacific Telesis Group, a worldwide diversified telecommunications corporation, based in San Francisco.
