 PACIFIC TELECOM UNIT, TRT/FTC COMMUNICATIONS,
 ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES
VANCOUVER, Wash., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- TRT/FTC Communications Inc., an 85-percent-owned subsidiary of Pacific Telecom Inc. (NASDAQ: PTCM), announced a number of personnel and organizational changes following a meeting of its board of directors on Jan. 27. The actions being taken by Pacific Telecom's Washington, D.C.-based telecommunications subsidiary consolidate management of its product lines, permitting TRT/FTC to achieve significant operating efficiencies and better focus its marketing efforts. The reorganization, which will be effective Feb. 1, reduces the overall number of executives and employees.
Theodore D. Berns, president and chief operating officer of Pacific Telecom, stated, "These reorganization actions are part of an effort to streamline the TRT/FTC organization in order to enhance the ability of the company to expand its messaging, switched voice and private line business."
Also at the board meeting, Robert A. Sternberg announced his resignation as TRT/FTC's president and chief operating officer. Sternberg, who resides in Portland, Ore., will continue to provide services on a consulting basis to PTI at its Vancouver, Wash., offices. Dominique Jacquet, currently executive vice president of TRT/FTC, has been appointed acting president of the company.
