PACIFIC SUNWEAR REPORTS SALES FOR OCTOBER

 SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. (NASDAQ: PSUN) reported net sales for the four-week period ended Oct. 31, 1993, of $2.8 million, an increase of 17 percent from sales of $2.4 million for the same period of 1992. Comparable store sales decreased 7 percent for the four weeks as compared to a 28 percent increase in the same period of 1992.
 In commenting on October sales Michael Rayden, president and chief executive officer, said, "Our October business was adversely affected by warmer than normal temperatures in California and the wildfires in Southern California. Business outside of California remained strong. We continue to be very pleased with the sales results for the 20 new stores we have opened this year." Of the 20 stores opened in 1993, 11 are in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, only one is in California and eight are in other existing markets.
 The company reported year-to-date net sales for the 39 weeks ended Oct. 31, 1993, of $38.0 million, an increase of 18 percent from sales of $32.2 million for the same period of 1992. Comparable store sales for the 39 weeks were flat compared to the same period of last year.
 Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. is a mall-based specialty retailer of young men's everyday apparel and accessories reflecting the casual lifestyle of Southern California. As of Oct. 31, 1993, the company operated 80 stores compared to 59 stores as of Nov. 1, 1992.
