PACIFIC SUNWEAR REPORTS SALES FOR JULY

 SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. (NASDAQ: PSUN) reported net sales for the four-week period ended Aug. 1, 1993, of $3.7 million, an increase of 6 percent from sales of $3.5 million for the same period of 1992. Comparable store sales decreased 11 percent for the four weeks as compared to a 21 percent increase in the same period of 1992.
 The company reported net sales for the 26 weeks ended Aug. 1, 1993, of $23.4 million, an increase of 16 percent from sales of $20.1 million for the same period of 1992. Comparable stores sales for the 26 weeks were up 3 percent from the same period of last year.
 In commenting on July sales results, Michael Rayden, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "July sales in our warm weather merchandise, tank tops and swimwear, were adversely affected by cooler than normal temperatures in California where the majority of our stores are located."
 Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. is a mall-based specialty retailer of young men's everyday apparel and accessories reflecting the casual lifestyle of Southern California. As of Aug. 1, 1993, the company operated 70 stores, compared to 54 stores as of Aug. 2, 1992.
