PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER RECEIVES $10,000 GRANT FROM THE UPS FOUNDATION

SEATTLE, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Science Center announced today that it has been awarded $10,000 by The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of United Parcel Service. The grant will be used to support the 1994 Camp-In Program and provide Camp-In scholarships for 100 Native American youth living on local reservations.
The Camp-In Program works with various youth agencies to provide children in grades three through six a fun and educational overnight experience at Pacific Science Center. The campers participate in science workshops, see an IMAX(R) film and have free time to enjoy the exhibits before they roll out their sleeping bags on the exhibit floor. Pacific Science Center expects over 7,000 children in 20 different groups in 1994.
Pacific Science Center makes a special effort to reach female, minority and low-income youth through the Camp-In Program by working with organizations serving these groups. The Science Center hopes to give these youth a positive experience with science so they will continue taking science in school and perhaps choose a career in science.
The UPS Foundation, founded in 1951, identifies specific areas where its support will show a clear impact on the resolution of social problems. Corporate grants benefiting organizations and programs such as Pacific Science Center's Camp-In Program address diverse concerns that are national in scope, particularly in areas of education and human welfare.
The UPS Foundation distributed approximately $11.8 million in 1992 throughout the United States and Canada. Of that, $9.3 million was awarded through the Corporate Grant program.
