PACIFIC LINEN OPENS LARGEST STORE; CONTINUES ON FAST TRACK CONVERTING TO POPULAR SUPERSTORE FORMAT

SEATTLE, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest consumer tastes and shopping patterns are changing and Bothell-based retailer Pacific Linen is responding in a big way, the company said.
Today the company opens the largest bed and bath specialty retail store in the Pacific Northwest and the biggest unit in its 49-store chain. Located at 17855 Southcenter Parkway, the 25,000-square-foot facility is a prototype of Pacific Linen's new format of "superstores."
Pacific Linen plans to open three other superstores here before the end of the year by expanding its Federal Way store in July and the North Seattle store in September, plus opening a brand new location across from Alderwood Mall in October. Other short-term growth plans include continued expansion in Tacoma, British Columbia and Denver.
Pacific Linen superstores offer an enormous selection of more than 10,000 first-quality, name-brand items at the lowest prices, typically 20-40 percent less than department stores for identical merchandise. And, to build customer loyalty, Pacific Linen guarantees the price of every item is as low or lower than all competitor sale prices for 60 days from the date of purchase.
Founded here in 1980, Pacific Linen currently operates 49 stores in eight Northwestern states (Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Utah, Alaska, Idaho and Nevada) and two Canadian provinces (British Columbia and Alberta).
Originally Pacific Linen operated small-format stores, offering closeouts and overruns at discount prices. In the early '80s, that was the only type of merchandise textile mills were willing to sell to what they considered nontraditional retailers.
But over the years the company evolved a new specialty format that emphasizes only first-quality merchandise, sharp pricing and the widest selection of upscale brands such as Cannon, Fieldcrest, Utica, Wamsutta and designer lines from Laura Ashley, Bill Blass, Eileen West and others.
