PACIFIC ASIA TECHNOLOGIES FORMS NEW DIVISION

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Asia Technologies Inc. (VSE: PFT.V) announced today the formation of a new division in response to the success of its entry into the fresh juice business. The president of the Maptek Division will be Peter Leedham, who has joined the company from Cadbury Schweppes Plc., one of the world's largest drinks and confectionery groups. He brings many years experience in the soft drink industry, having worked as vice president with Cadbury Beverages Europe and as a director of Pepsi-Cola Northern Europe.
Alan F. Heath has joined the Maptek Division as vice president of Marketing. He formerly served as vice president and general manager, Eastern Region U.S.A. and vice president marketing for Tetra Pak, Inc., a subsidiary of Tetra Pak International and The Tetra Laval Group, one of the world's largest food packaging and food processing machinery companies. He also spent numerous years in the U.S. soft drink and juice industry in senior management positions. Alan will operate from the new Maptek offices in Ridgefield, Conn.
The innovative Maptek process, which prolongs the shelf life while maintaining the quality of freshly squeezed juice without using any additives or preservative process, has been commercialized with orange juice in California and Florida. The objective of the new division is to build upon this success by promoting the use of the technology worldwide.
Pacific Asia licenses and markets the world's leading Modified Atmosphere Packaging Technology. Originally developed at the University of British Columbia, MAP is a rapidly growing fresh produce packaging system. Use of this system reduces cost and waste and increases the quality, nutrition and flavor of fresh produce at the point of sale. The company's technologies, Maptek Fresh and Tamfresh, stabilize plant matter in whole, sliced or juice form in a state of hibernation. This in turn allows vegetables, fruit and flowers to retain the characteristics of freshness and "Ripe Pick" harvesting over an extended period reducing waste while maintaining high quality and nutritional value during low cost distribution. Maptek Fresh and Tamfresh are environmentally friendly, do not use chemicals, irradiation or additives and eliminate the need for genetic engineering to achieve optimum distribution characteristics.
