PA gets 7yrs for E7m theft.

Byline: MELVYN HOWE

A TOP city secretary who fleeced her bank bosses out of nearly EUR7million was jailed for seven years yesterday.

Joyti De-Laurey, 35, was branded "duplicitous, deceitful and thoroughly dishonest".

Judge Christopher Elwen told her it was clear "lying is woven into the fabric of your being".

London's Southwark Crown Court heard she used the cash to enjoy a lifestyle similar to the Goldman Sachs managing directors she worked for.

The court also heard De-Laurey stole EUR24,000 from her mother's bank account.

Her husband Anthony, 50, was jailed for 18 months for money laundering.

And her mother, Dr Devi Schahhou, 68, was given a six-month suspended sentence also for money laundering.

De-Laurey bought EUR605,000 of Cartier jewellery and made donations of pounds 10,000 to charities. She even faked cancer to gain sympathy from her employers.
