A P6.5-million landslide-protection wall in a village in North Cotabato has recently been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

The slope protection project was constructed along Banisilan-Guiling-Alamada-Libungan Road in Barangay Kitacubong, Alamada, North Cotabato.

With the completion of the structure, DPWH-North Cotabato 2nd District Engineer Eliseo Otoc said residents now have a defense wall against landslides and road closures.

"Keeping safety at the forefront, this wall will protect road users and prevent road damage and obstruction from landslides and rockslides during calamities,"Otoc said.

A total of P6.5 million was spent for the implementation of the project, which covers the rehabilitation and reconstruction of a 934-square meter portion of existing retaining structure in the area with slips, slope collapse, and landslide.

It was funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

According to Otoc, the slope protection project was completed in four months but a beautification project on the wall is underway.

The local government unit of Alamada, Otoc said, initiated the mural painting on the retaining wall for information drive and promotion of tourism in the area.

According to DPWH, the municipality of Alamada "is slowly becoming a favorite tourist destination in North Cotabato as it is the home of the mesmerizing Asik-Asik Falls."
