Oxford University Press to publish new title about Alexander the Great by Hugh Bowden.

Academic and educational publisher Oxford University Press announced on Wednesday that a new book by Ancient History lecturer Hugh Bowden, titled Alexander the Great: A Very Short Introduction, will be released on 24 July 2014.

Alexander the Great became king of Macedon in 336 BC aged 20 and died twelve years later. Bowden's research into his life and career includes letters from officials in Afghanistan, Babylonian diaries and records from Egyptian temples. The book is intended to to describe how Alexander appeared to those who encountered him and how the legends of his life have influenced historical understanding worldwide.

Alexander the Great: A Very Short Introduction is available from 24 July in paperback, priced at GBP7.99.
